Technological Disasters

We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology. - Carl Sagan

Technological hazards including accidents, dangerous procedures, infrastructure failures or Terrorist activities are an escalating source of risk to people and their environment. Technological hazards also may arise directly as a result of the impacts of a natural hazard event. Usually, little or no warning precedes incidents involving technological hazards. Technological hazards include industrial pollution, nuclear radiation, toxic wastes, dam failures, transport accidents, factory explosions, fires, and chemical spills.
